Types of Retina Surgery Offered

Laser Retinopexy for Retinal Tears

Laser Retinopexy for Retinal Tears

Laser retinopexy is a vision-saving procedure used to seal retinal tears before they progress to retinal detachment. During the treatment, Dr. Johnson uses laser energy to create small burns around the tear, forming scar tissue that securely bonds the retina to the underlying tissue. This prevents fluid from entering through the tear and stabilizes the retina. Laser retinopexy is performed in-office under local anesthesia and typically takes only a few minutes.

YAG Laser Treatments

YAG Laser Treatments

YAG laser treatments are performed to restore clear vision after cataract surgery or to remove floaters. During a YAG posterior capsulotomy, Dr. Johnson uses a focused laser to create an opening in the cloudy capsule that sometimes develops behind an intraocular lens, often called an “after-cataract.” In some cases, he may also perform YAG vitreolysis to reduce bothersome floaters, thereby improving clarity and comfort without the need for incisions or anesthesia.

Laser Glaucoma Treatments

Laser Glaucoma Treatments

Laser glaucoma treatments help lower intraocular pressure to protect the optic nerve and prevent vision loss. Dr. Johnson performs procedures such as laser peripheral iridotomy to improve fluid flow in narrow-angle glaucoma, as well as selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) or micropulse laser trabeculoplasty to enhance drainage in open-angle glaucoma. These minimally invasive procedures offer effective pressure control with little downtime, reducing dependence on long-term medication and preserving vision health.

Retinal Laser Treatments

Retinal Laser Treatments

Retinal laser treatments are used to manage conditions like diabetic retinopathy, macular edema, and retinal vein occlusion. Using an Iridex argon laser, Dr. Johnson precisely targets leaking or damaged blood vessels to reduce swelling and preserve vision. Depending on the condition, focal laser or pan-retinal photocoagulation may also be performed to stabilize vision, reduce swelling, and prevent further retinal damage. These in-office treatments are performed with exceptional accuracy, ensuring optimal outcomes and comfort.
